October 1st - Hi all, the new building is in the process of bidding out contracts for the actual dog apartments, cat room , medical suite etc.. to start coming up. During this process it is being filmed for a TV show. The stray dogs are counting the days and weeks for completion, as am I. Keep your eyes focused on 2320 Pine St. as the miracle continues
| August
27th - Well, the concrete is cut and lying of the plumbing
is set to go. The building looks completely different already. I stand there
and imagine a wonderful new home for the dogs and cats. The weekend events
have started out a little slow so I hope many of you come to our events,
let me give you the 2 cent tour and enjoy yourselves. Stray Rescue owes
you a big woof and a thanks and I hope to see you soon. |
July 22nd - Demolition has started; the building for the new shelter is starting to look like a blank canvas. It is amazing to watch a dream turn into a reality. With the Zootoo.com team and the folks in St. Louis, every weekend starting August 9th there will be activities for the public as we watch as a city, history in the making- the first downtown shelter.not a shelter tucked away by the city dump or train tracks but a shelter with a view of the arch, a shelter that everyone will know where it is at. How cool is that! We still need to raise another million so I help you participate in some of our awesome fundraising opportunities on this site. August 9th the kick off the Miracle Million Series will be held- details to come so stay tuned and thanks for the support!Woof Randy

July 18th - Today is day 4 of the Stray Rescue Million dollar demo, er I mean, MAKEOVER. I visited the site today to get some video and pics. WOW!!! From seeing it on the first day to what it is today is amazing. The main area is completely gutted and there isnt a wall in sight. There isn't even a bathroom anymore. Unless you go outside. (for those that are housebroken : ) ) Check out the video page for an updated video from day 4. The project is moving at great speed, and the DREAM is definately alive. Randy has promised me he'd write about what's going on on his side. That should be done shortly. We'll have another update early next week. Up comes the concrete floor next. DON'T FORGET TO BUY YOUR BRICK. |
July 15th - Well the day finally came. At 10am this morning Randy and Richard Thompson held a press conference kicking off the $1,000,000 makeover. Sledgehammers (and hockey sticks) were flying. Randy, Richard, Barret Jackman, Jenn, Kelly, and even President Reed from the board of Aldermen took a swing. Quentin tried to take a swing, but the hammer was just too heavy. Eventually, we had to call in the pros. The bobcat was fired up and the wall came tumbling down. It was a great moment for Stray Rescue. It was a great moment for all strays everywhere. The press conference was over around 1130 and as soon as we left, the demo team took over. Word on the street is the old ceiling and most of the walls are already down. These guys know we have to have this done by the time the weather turns cold. We'll have another update with video and pics in the next few days. It was a great day. If you haven't already, buy your brick for the memorial sidewalk. We really need your help. By the way, a little CHIHUAHUA told me Randy would write for the next update. In the meantime, Yo Quiero, Stray Rescue!
July 14th - As I write this the clock on the homepage is at 18 hours 21 minutes to demo. ZOOTOO is on their way in and the DREAM is about to begin. There is no turning back now. Josephine, say goodbye to the bathroom. Its only a matter of time. EVERYONE is invited down to Pine Street tomorrow morning at 10am for the press conference and start of demo. Its going to be a celebration and a new begining that is 15 years in the making. MY 103.3 will be there broadcasting live. Randy, get some sleep tonight. We're going into overdrive. Next update will have pics and video, so keep coming back.
July 8th - Well folks, the big news are the demolition of the insides of the building begins on July 15th, I see the street dogs dancing in the streets now! This is such an exciting time for Stray Rescue , St. Louis and the dogs and kitties yes there will be kittie in the new shelter too! Thanks for the support, we still need to raise more money to finish the building and appreciate all of you who have bought a memorial brick! Many woofs, Randy
July 7th - The countdown has begun. I have received the official word. "D" day is Tuesday, July 15th. At 10am the walls will come tumbling down. Finally I'll be able to get some updated pics and video up on the site. If you don't have to work (or even if you do play hooky) make sure you come out for this. This isn't going to be any ordinary demolition. We are hopefully in the works to get the SMASH morning show to broadcast live from 6-10am with the demo begining at 10. Thats it. The time is here. The time is now. Hang in there our "not forgotten" friends. Your new home is coming. Don't forget to buy your memorial brick. They are going fast and you don't want to be left out. Hopefuly, the next update will be from the big dog, Randy. The dream has begun.
July 2nd - Alright, I know its been a little while since our last update and all of you are sitting on the edge of your seats waiting for details. I'm not sure if I can leak this, but I'll be a little vague. The demolition phase of the makeover process will be coming soon. Realllllll soon. As soon as I'm given the ok, i'll post the exact date and time. Once we start demolition, this is going to be one amazing and quick project. Everyone is 100% committed and ready to rock n roll. We are still looking for a Corporate sponsor of the makeover website AND Animal Tails. We won't kid you. It isn't cheap to produce a radio show. Once we get a big sponsor, no money will have to come from Stray Rescue and all the ad revenue from the show, goes to the dogs. If anyone knows someone that owns a business and can afford a monthly donation to keep the show going, have them contact us. We'll even name the Animal Tails show after the business. Thats it for now. The moment is almost upon us. Get in. Sit down. And strap on your seatbelt. Its going to be a great ride.
June 25th - Today we updated a few pages on the website. We added "The Great Eight" video to the videos page. Also, the Stray Rescue food drive has kicked off. You can find the link on the homepage. Its free and will reallllllly help us and our furry friends out. Not to mention, all area shelters. Did I mention its free? If you look on the homepage, we are going to feature a pet available for adoption. We'll call it my "pet project". Get it? First up is Alma. What a great girl. She's been at the shelter for a few years and her time has come to find her forever home. I've met her and can personally say she is wonderful and would make a great addition to your home. Click her picture to find out more. While we wait for construction to begin, we are always looking for your ideas of what you want up on the site. Send us an email (click on the contact us link) with your idea and we'll see what happens. That's it for now. Now go adopt Alma! : )
June 24th - From Randy - It has been busy for Stray Rescue, making sure we rescue as always and build a new haven for the dogs and cats....but we are doing it! The Great 8 are proving that pit bulls do get a bad rap, they are all so loving. Soon, we hope to start adopting some of these great dogs to special homes. The building is moving along. The true transformation will begin any time, for now it is many meetings and drawings. The dream is coming true for strays and because of you I know we will have a building St. Louis can be proud of. There is a NEW video of the Great Eight in the video section of the site.
June 20th - Not too much to report in this entry. Randy has been busy meeting with the architects, contractors, and fielding numerous calls from Zootoo. Everything is underway. Arrangements are being made to finalize the transfer of the building from Wachovia to Stray Rescue. We should be (put your thumb and index finger an inch apart) this close to "officially" owning a 16,500 sqaure foot building. One other thing Randy has been busy with is the arival last night of the "Great Eight". If you don't know who they are, where have you been? Not reading your Stray Rescue weekly updates email? You can click here (right here) to read their incredible story. There was a press conference this morning and it was covered by Channels 2, 4, and 5. We'll thats it for today. Don't forget to get your memorial brick. As a pet lover, you don't want to miss this opportunity.
June 16th - Today we started a new fundraising campaign. The project calls for a new sidewalk leading to the building and what better way to build a sidewalk than with Memorial Bricks. We all have someone in our lives, past or present that we would love to honor forever, so what better way than to have it in stone. (or brick in this case) If you want to Honor/Memorialize someone, 2 legs or 4, go to the home page and click on the link to purchase your brick. There are limited bricks for the sidewalk, so get yours today.
June 11th - Well the $1,000,000 makeover project has begun. Richard Thompson and his ZOOTOO crew came to town Tuesday & Wednesday and we all met with the contractors, architects, Mayor's office, and numerous other people that are involved. Everybody is on-board and all agree that this is an extrememly important project. We hope to have all the necessary paperwork ready, and the plans are being tweaked. IT'S GOING TO BE AWESOME. This isn't going to be just a contruction project. This is going to be an EVENT, and we want all of you to be a part of it. Keep checking back here for updates on the project, and what you can do to be a part of it. This is YOUR project and we want you involved.
